MAC Address Randomization

Marketing4WiFi  is designed to enable users of the platform to modify a guest users experience based on the venues need.

Software release 2.53 for Marketing4WiFi contains new features that will address concerns of MAC Address randomization features in iOS14+ and Android OS10+.
These new features will allow the splash page to automatically detect and inform a guest that their device is using a randomized MAC and offer support on how to disable the feature.

Please see this article on possible areas of concern for MAC Address randomization in the platform.

How to Enable MAC Address randomization on a hotspot

  1. Login to the dashboard
  2. Using the navigation panel to the left, select Network > Hotspots
  3. Click the edit hotspot icon for the hotspot you would like to configure
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the ‘Login Details‘ section and look for the ‘Random MAC Address detection’ and ‘Require Unique MAC Address’ toggles.
  5. Enable ‘Random MAC Address detection’ if you want guests to know they’re using a randomized MAC. Enter the message you would like displayed to guests with a randomized MAC address.
  6. You can include the key{$DeviceSettingsSplashPage} in the configurable text notification which will generate a ‘click here’ link in the notification that links to the ‘Device Support Page’.
  7. Enable ‘Unique MAC Address required’ if you would like to limit access to guests who are not using a randomized MAC address.
  8. (Optional)Open the Drag and Drop builder and update the ‘Device Support Page‘ to fit your branding needs. Every splash page starts with a default page.
What is the user experience with 'Randomized MAC Address detection' enabled?

If a guest device is redirected to the splash page using a randomized MAC, the configurable notification text will pop up as soon as the splash page is loaded. If the DeviceSettingsSplashPage key is included, the user can click the link to view the ‘Device Support Page’ or press ‘Ok’ to proceed on to the splash page and connect.

What is the user experience with 'Require Unique MAC Address' enabled?

If a guest device is redirected to the splash page using a randomized MAC, the configurable notification text will pop up as soon as the splash page is loaded. If the DeviceSettingsSplashPage key is included, the user can click the link to view the ‘Device Support Page’. There is no ‘Ok’ button so the user will be unable to access the splash page to complete the login process.

How has Guest Plans Required been affected?

If you enable the Guest Plans Required toggle, the Unique MAC Address required toggle will be enabled as well. This is to avoid a guest being unable to access an active guest plan because of a changed randomized MAC address.
